GALLANT cricketers from York’s Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Primary School still shout and cheer after reaching the North Yorkshire regional Drax Cup finals.
The team were among eight schools – Lealholm (Ryedale & Whitby), Gladstone Road (Scarborough & Filey), Pannal (Harrogate), Kildwick (Craven), Threshfield (Craven), Richmond Methodist (Richmond) and Chandlers Ridge (Middlesbrough) – who competed in the finals held at Dunnington Cricket Club.
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs got to the final but they were pipped to the prize for the second successive year.
The totalled 257-4, but lost by five runs to Craven’s Kildwick Primary School (262-6), who now advance to the Drax Cup Finals at Yorkshire’s Headingley ground on Tuesday, July 9, as a curtain-raiser to the Yorkshire Vikings’ Friends Life t20 game against Leicestershire Foxes.
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs’ three wins in the pool stage came against Pannal (261 runs to 212), Chandlers Ridge (283 to 229) and Gladstone Road (286-271).
