JOHN Fogerty’s Creedence Clearwater Revival were one of the finest rock bands of all time. Ploughing a very singular furrow between the pap and the pomposity which dominated the late 1960s and early 1970s, Creedence’s uplifting brand of guitar-driven rock, underpinned by Fogerty’s distinctive voice, was a breath of fresh air.

Since the band’s demise, amid the usual acrimony, Fogerty kept a low profile in the UK, until his acclaimed appearance with “protege” Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park last summer. Now comes the uplifting Wrote A Song For Everyone, a celebration of Fogerty’s iconic songbook in which stars such as The Foo Fighters, Bob Seger, Keith Urban and Jennifer Hudson, alongside Fogerty himself, reinterpret such classic as Lodi, Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary and Have You Ever Seen The Rain?

Highlights include a wonderfully world-weary version of Who’ll Stop The Rain? with Seger and an imaginative reworking of Proud Mary with Jennifer Hudson and the legendary Allen Toussaint. Wrote A Song For Everyone is a timely reminder of John Fogerty’s brilliance.
