FIVE people were arrested as part of a police operation in Selby.

The arrests came in a day of action by officers, which also saw a 14-year-old girl cautioned over theft from a shop, and more than two dozen vehicles inspected by police, the Environment Agency and HMRC.

Two men, aged 28 and 17, and a woman aged 41, were arrested and released on bail in the Woodville Terrace area of Selby, in connection with a drugs warrant where drugs were seized from the property.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, and a vehicle stolen in a burglary earlier this week was recovered at a property in Mill Lane, Carlton. The man remains in police custody.

Inspector Lindsey Stamp said: “Operation Energy is a fantastic example of partner agencies working hard to improve the quality of life within our communities and I am extremely grateful to all who attended today and supported us in achieving our objectives.

“Members of the public act as our eyes and ears and much of the information which leads to criminals being arrested is as a result of information from the community, so we would encourage them to keep in touch with their thoughts and concerns.”

A woman was also arrested on suspicion of theft from the town centre and released on bail.

Twenty shed alarms were issued to allotment owners in Flaxley Road, and more than 30 sets of tools were security marked by officers. Police and representatives from other organisations inspected 26 vehicles, and issued two fixed penalty notices to motorists, one for a lack of MOT, and another for an insecure load.

Teams from the Youth Justice Service cleaned up the skate park, and a Community Payback team sanded down and repainted the children’s play area in Scott Road.

There were also visits from the UK Border Agency to four premises in the town centre, three visits to raise awareness of domestic violence, and truancy officers saw six children return to their schools.
