A SUSPECTED burglar caught on CCTV during a break-in at a pizza takeaway in York is being hunted by police.

York police are asking for the publics’ help to identify a man who forced entry to King’s Pizza on Gillygate through the front door, causing significant damage in the process.

The incident happened on April 1, between 10am and 12pm while the takeaway was closed. The suspect was disturbed by delivery drivers and was seen to run out of the shop towards Lord Mayors Walk.

He is described as white, aged in his 20s, short and of slim build with a thin face. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket.

PC Alex Murphy of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It is of note that this offence occurred brazenly in daylight hours on a busy street.

CCTV footage shows heavy traffic on the street outside, and several pedestrians walking past as the male entered the takeaway.

“The owner of this business has only recently moved to York from a neighbouring county, and I am ashamed that he should be welcomed into our community in such a manner. I am appealing to anyone who saw the man entering the takeaway, or recognises him, to contact me as soon as they can.”

Anyone with information is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
