WITH a sound rooted in mid-1990s Britpop, it’s always been a surprise that Brighton brothers Tom and Alex White have never managed to achieve anything other than cult status.
A sound built on clever guitar hooks and harmonies which strongly remind of the Boo Radleys should be an aphrodisiac for any lover of nostalgia.
Listen to Summertime In My Heart, a glorious anthem for the week or so of pleasant weather we will get in July, and it becomes more confusing. But from here the problems soon emerge, and it is a question of depth.
Brother, You Must Walk Your Path Alone and the title track, for example, are pleasant enough but they lack any real substance.
They meander along for three minutes and leave you utterly underwhelmed. Mr Mitchell tries, but fails badly, to capture the spirit of Abbey Road and the end result is a record which flatters but, ultimately, deceives.
