Some of the biggest names in folk and country music have come together to pay tribute to Canadian star Kate McGarrigle, who died from cancer in 2010.
The recordings have been taken from a series of concerts held in her honour the following year, and feature McGarrigle’s children Rufus and Martha Wainwright, her sister Anna and the illustrious likes of Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Richard, Linda and Teddy Thompson and even talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
Highlights include Broken Social Scene’s version of Mother Mother (originally performed by Kate and Anna) and The Work Song, performed by Justin Vivian Bond, while Emmylou’s Darlin’ Kate kicks off a tear-jerking four-song finale to a stunning appreciation of a clearly much-loved and influential artist.
