THE City of York Athletic Club came away with two medals in the under-20 and under-23 Athletic Championships in Bedford last weekend, writes Jack Amor.

The York club had five athletes competing and all finished in respectable places.

Scott Lincoln missed beating his personal best by four centimetres with a throw of 16.46 metres, which earned him a silver medal in the U23 men’s shot.

Katy Wood won bronze in the U20 women’s 3,000 metres with a time of nine minutes and 46 seconds, breaking her personal record.

Both Lincoln and Wood have another two years in their age group and are likely to improve.

Although throwing a season’s best, Paul Allsopp failed to gain a medal in the U23 men’s javelin with a throw of 64.11m.

Sarah Parsons narrowly missed out on eighth place in the U20 women’s discus with a throw of 35.86m, while Ollie Palmer finished fifth in the 400m hurdles heat with a time of 55.71 seconds.
