A YORK volunteer with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has been named as its Fundraising Volunteer Of The Year for North & East Yorkshire.
Phil McMahon scooped the accolade in recognition of his instrumental role in setting up the Heart Of York Bike Ride, an annual event that in its first year in 2012 raised £9,000 for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.
Phil, who is vice-chair of the BHF York Committee, said he accepted the award on behalf of everyone on the committee.
He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working alongside fellow volunteers who are passionate about the cause and have a lot of fun while raising money to fund lifesaving research and to help heart patients.”
