A Russian music fan is travelling more than 2,000 miles to see Nineties chart act Space reform at a small music festival in North Yorkshire.

The Liverpudlian band, whose hits included Female Of The Species and Neighbourhood, split in 2005 but have been playing shows including the Willowman Festival.

Denis Burov, from Moscow, was so excited that he would get to see his favourite band for the first time that he decided to travel 2,034 miles to Northallerton for this weekend’s event.

The band – whose last top 20 hit was in 1998 – had something of a cult following in Russia Mr Burov, who works for a digital media company in Moscow, said: “Space was one of my favourite bands in the late 90s. When I heard they had reformed I checked the official Space website and found they were playing at the Willowman Festival.

“I bought my festival tickets and flight tickets and here I am. I am staying in London to catch up with old friends and then I get the train to Yorkshire.”

Other acts playing over the four days include The Wonder Stuff, New Model Army and The Orb Soundsystem.
