SKATEBOARDERS, BMX experts and musicians have showcased their skills at an event for agencies who work with children in York.

A mobile skate park was set up outside City of York Council’s West Offices HQ for youngsters to display tricks they have learned from sessions at the city’s The Zoo skating facility.

Representatives of The Duke of Edinburgh Award also demonstrated their expedition work and a youth band providing the music.

Young people who are part of the Walk Against Crime charity also spoke about their work with young people caught up in street crime at the council-hosted event, while the authority also launched its Youth Support Services strategy for the next two years and a new guide to the services available for youngsters.

Coun Janet Looker, cabinet member for education, children and young people, sadi: “I am very pleased with the range of youth services we can offer young people in the city and the partnerships we have forged with other organisations to help deliver them.”
