HEARTFELT congratulations to Harry Gration on his well-deserved honour.

He is a true Yorkshireman who wears the white rose on his sleeve. His credentials as a Bradfordian who has spent most of his life living in York, loves the power of words, and has Tyke running through his veins got my fantasies believing we are fellow travellers.

Musing on these thoughts to the memsahib, she soundly pricked the hubristic bubble by calmly informing me that MBE does not stand for “My Big Ego”.

• I WAS so pleased to see my ex-school friend Harry Gration awarded an MBE by the Queen in recognition of 40 years in broadcasting.

Harry’s coverage of so many different sports, and his role as anchor man on the BBC Look North, has been a job very well done – he fully deserves this honour. “Harry’s way” has always been very easy on the eye and ear; bravo!
