Pocklington 2 maintained their unbeaten run in division three of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League – the only club to have played and won all six matches this season.

Andrea Bland and Rosanne Dane racked up 24 games and they were assisted by Di Flint and Helen Marsden with 22 games in their 61-47 win over Rowntree Park.

In division two, Fulford 2 overturned last week’s disappointing 55-53 loss by beating Copmanthorpe 1 by the same score.

Copmanthorpe were leading after the second rubber but a 10-2 win by captain Pauline Craddock and partner Wendy Cook saw Fulford home. Dunnington 2 are still on top after a 61-47 victory against Wigginton 1 with Denise Bolam and Suzie Booth their top scorers.

Cliffe returned to winning form in division four with first couple Jane Pemberton and Liz Bramley storming to 9-3, 10-2 and 12-0 wins against Bishopthorpe 2.

Sutton-on-Derwent now occupy second spot after they edged past Heworth 55-53, Sally Simpson and Peggy Hodgson scoring 27.

In division one, Fulford 1 secured their first victory of the campaign beating fellow strugglers Bishopthorpe 1.

Jill McCreedy and Jill Rounce re-formed their successful partnership to claim three 11-1 wins and were backed up by a solid performance from second couple, Elizabeth Mallory and Anna Baker, to win the match 65-43.

Top-placed York 1 travelled to Castlegarth 1 for their fifth straight comfortable triumph with the three couples taking 27, 25 and 23 games respectively.

York 2 moved into third place after a 55-53 win over David Lloyd 1 despite being unable to beat Elaine Hilton and Debbie Holman.

Elsewhere, Poppleton 1 continued their recent good form as they downed an under-par Dunnington 1 with Cath Baker and Liz Burdett taking 27 games.

There was a closely-fought match in division six as Appleton Roebuck 2 toppled Wilberfoss 58-50.

Anna Dawkes and Chris Hanby were Roebuck’s top-scorers, but Gerry Screeton and Andrea Webster battled to the end for Wilberfoss as they refused to be beaten.

Three teams are battling it out at the top of division five.

Sharon Davidson and Dinah Burke led David Lloyd 2 to a straightforward triumph against Copmanthorpe 3, while Knaresborough 2 had a much tighter encounter at Dunnington 3 before finally prevailing 56-52.

The third team in the mix, New Earswick, also had to fight hard.

They finally overcame Cawood 57-51, although it was Cawood’s Carolynne Taylor and Shelagh Elcock who were top scorers with 27 games.

Sheriff Hutton managed their second win of the summer by beating Bubwith 67-41.
