A STRIKING new entrance to the South Door of York Minster has been completed.
A pedestrian and cyclist-friendly piazza has been created in Deangate between Minster Gates and the cathedral. The project is part of the wider lottery-backed York Minster Revealed project.
This is aimed at boosting the Minster’s status as a visitor attraction while also protecting its stonework and stained-glass treasures for generations to come.
York building firm William Anelay carried out the construction work on the piazza, working with architects Arroll & Snell and project managers Gardiner &Theobald.
City of York Council has provided £500,000 towards the South Piazza works.
