WORK on a main road linking York and East Yorkshire will start next month after being delayed because of bad weather.

The improvements will be carried out along an eight-mile stretch of the B1228, which connects the A1079 with Howden, at two separate sites.

One covers a four-mile section between the junctions at Rossmoor Lodge and Ellerton Common, and the other is a four-mile section between the A163 junction at Bubwith and the junction near Spaldington.

Work is due to start at both sites on Monday, July 8, and the B1228 will be closed to through traffic at these locations for about five weeks. The project was postponed in February because of heavy rain.

Access through the sites will be allowed for residents and businesses, as well as emergency services, shop deliveries, rubbish collections and other services. Diversions will be in place, although buses will be affected and details of diversions will be available shortly.

Weight restrictions will also be in place on surrounding roads.

Dave Waudby, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s head of infrastructure and facilities, said: “While some inconvenience will be unavoidable, the duration of the road closure is being kept to a minimum by constructing the two sites simultaneously.”
