DON’T be duped. The consultative document outlining Labour’s second attempt at producing a Local Plan has been circulated in a guise that deliberately over-simplifies the facts behind it, to the extent of deliberate concealment of the true picture.

I would like to suggest that Labour supporters ask their ward councillor why the huge tranche of suggested wind farms have been left off the map.

Also, why do the suggested housing sites on the map not show the numbers of houses planned to be built?

Nearly 600 houses planned for Holme Hill, between Elvington and Heslington, and not one word of protest from Heslington’s Labour councillor who is responsible for environmental issues in York.

“But you can see more detail if you call in at one of our drop-in centres,” Labour will cry. Try calling in at the Central Library (Explore) and asking for access to all the relevant information including the mysterious Arup report. If you are given full access, which is unlikely, try asking for somewhere to sit and examine the information and spread out the maps. No chance!

Please citizens of York – see through this duplicity. Refuse to accept the lack of transparency, You deserve better.

Coun George Barton, Deputy leader Conservative group, City of York Council.
