TRIBUTES have been paid to Brian Bogie, a lifelong supporter of Selby Town FC who has died at the age of 82.

Mr Bogie, who lived in the Flaxley Road area, had been ill for some time.

Tommy Arkley, secretary of Selby Town, said: “Brian was born and bred in Selby.

“He was always a Selby Town fan and had a lot of thoughts about the club, it was always on his mind. I think he was on the committee at some point. He played in goal for a shipyard team when he was a lot younger and there will be a few at his funeral from Cochrane’s, I would think.”

Mr Bogie’s daughter-in-law, Kath, who is married to his son, Paul, said: “He was a lovely person, but he could be grumpy like the rest of us. Very quiet. His son is very much like him. He was a lovely dad, and he was a lovely granddad.

“He was a big family man. He lived for his family and Selby Town. But he missed his wife, Hazel. She motivated him a lot.”

Mr Arkley said: “He lost his wife a few years ago and that knocked him for six really. He deteriorated since then with his health.

“They were always more or less together, every time we had a party or family get-together.

“People I have spoken to about him have said a lot of kind words about him.”

An official statement from the Northern Counties East League and Selby Town said: “Although his poor health kept him away from the club in recent seasons, his heart was always with us and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

Brian is survived by his children, Paul, David and Diane, four grandchildren Daniel, Kelly, Steven and Anne-Marie, and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Ben, Lucy and Ellis.

The date for a funeral service will be announced at a later date.
