THIS women’s barbershop chorus fears the only dresses they will be able to afford for an upcoming national competition will be their dressing gowns.

A recent influx of members has left Main Street Sound, the only chorus of its kind in York, in need of funds to provide dresses for the event taking place in Llandudno in Wales in October.

To raise money, the accapella singers held a concert at St Michael le Belfrey Church in York.

Main Street Sound sung a selection of songs from their varied repertoire, including I Will Survive in barbershop style.

The group has 36 members, aged between 12 and 70-year-olds, and has been running for more than ten years.

They usually perform at charity gigs and have previously raised money for Breast Cancer Research and Lollipop, a local group that helps young people with hearing loss.

The women meet every Monday at 7.30pm at Acomb Baptist Church.
