PARLIAMENT Street was filled with music and dance again as York Carnival got into swing for the ninth year.
This year’s parade had a Latin twist with samba drummers, capoeira dancers and other performers.
Mouth-watering food included paella and gourmet snacks were on sale at stalls yesterday along with bric-a-brac.
Traditional English afternoon tea was also served to those soaking up the carnival atmosphere.
This year’s line up included the return of headliners My Forever and Rory Hoy – who has received praise from the likes of Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff and Craig Charles – as well as upcoming York band The Glass Caves who have recently received increasing Radio One radio play.
There were also educational displays by 999 workers and York Minster whose stall was inspired by the newly opened Undercroft.
Activities included Roman, Saxon and Viking mask-making. A creative corner offered craft activities for all ages.
