A LATE-NIGHT karaoke bar is to be opened above a restaurant in York after councillors approved the scheme.

Proposals to refurbish the two upper floors of the Barbican Road building which once housed Cantonese restaurant the Royal Dragon and the Spotted Cow pub and create 11 karaoke rooms and three dining rooms for parties were given the go-ahead by City of York Council.

The ground floor of the site has become a new restaurant called The Regency, with an original planning application being withdrawn in January after concerns were raised about noise.

The fresh plans have now been approved, although ten objections were raised over the scheme, mainly surrounding late-night noise.

The applicants said the karaoke would only be available for use by diners. Ten jobs will be created.
