Wigginton, newcomers to the York Amateur Bowling Association York men’s Evening League, were comfortable winners over Minster in their first home match.

Three winning rinks and aggregate shots 90 to 61 enabled them to collect seven points. Skip Colin Ellis rink was 18 shots without reply by the seventh end and went on to win 31-14, while skip Brian Hutton led his rink to a 25-13 win.

Skip Dave Jervis’ rink won a tight match 21-17.

Both Wigginton’s Ryedale Vets Triple teams were in action.

The ‘A’ team visited Pickering and, despite losing three rinks, managed to secure the overall aggregate by just one shot (59-58) to collect five out of the eight available points. Skip Tony Baker’s only winning rink provided a handsome 23-11 cushion.

The ‘B’ team – hosting Huby – gained the aggregate by 11 shots (68-57). They had three winning rinks – those of skips Gary Stockton 21-10, David Moorhouse 15-13 and Michael Barlow 16-14s to secure seven of the eight points up for grabs.

In their Country League match at Sheriff Hutton, Wigginton ladies had a clean sweep with both rinks winning – skips Jean Millar 10-8 and Marjorie Watson 15-8 to take the maximum six points.

But they were less fortunate in their Challis League match at Wheldrake, where they could only pick up two points as a result of a winning rink from skip Jean Millar.

The end of the week saw Wigginton visit Hutton-Le-Hole in the Huby Triples League but the visitors were only able to come away with two points.

At home to neighbouring Strensall in the Batagas Triples League, Wigginton amassed all eight points from four winning rinks to register a convincing 95-51 success.
