A WOMAN from York who agreed to be tattooed for charity with a design chosen at random has gone under the needle.

Emma Milligan, 24, is now showing off her new image of a cycle which was drawn on her foot after she picked the design from a hat containing dozens of other suggestions.

Emma, from Acomb, agreed to have a tattoo done in return for donations of at least £5 to help pay for a ten-week trip to India, where she will work on community projects with the development charity Raleigh International.

The winner was invited to decide what and where her tattoo would be, but she insisted it could not be offensive and must be on a part of the body which could be covered up.

She said: “I was relieved when the bike design came out, especially when I saw some of the other suggestions.

“My boss wanted me to have a cat on my bottom and someone else wanted me to have Mr Bean.

“A lot of people wanted me to have their name tattooed on me – there were a lot of big egos out there. I would like to thank Ruby Arts, in Blossom Street, for doing a great job for free.”

Emma, who already had a tattoo of the oriental “ying and yang”, symbol thanked everyone who helped her raise more than £800 through the tattoo donations and a fundraising cheese and wine party at Blue Fly in New Street.

Emma will head out to India in June and work on a project which aims to improve access to sanitation while educating people about health and hygiene.”
