SECOND division Wheldrake toppled York Minor League division one champions Pocklington Town Predators to win the York FA Under-15s Intermediate (Senior) Minor Cup.

The final at Tockwith was goalless at half-time, with Pocklington’s Ben Potter going closest to breaking the deadlock when his 16thminute header was ruled out for an offside.

Wheldrake, who finished second in the second tier, raised their game after the break and Sam McAllister opened the scoring when his 18-yard drive found the bottom corner of the net.

McAllister was also involved in the second when his 20-yard shot hit the bar and Luke Raynor followed up to net the rebound.

The trophies were presented by York FA president Roy Ellwood.

Meanwhile, Rawcliffe Tigers U16s are celebrating a magnificent trophy double.

The Tigers stormed to the York Minor League division title, winning all 12 of their games, and they added the York FA U16s Senior Minor Cup with a 7-1 final win over Strensall Tigers.

Rawcliffe’s Kieren Smith opened the scoring in the final at Tockwith on 20 minutes when the Strensall ’keeper failed to hold his speculative long-range shot.

Rawcliffe increased their lead before the break when Strensall’s David Fell headed a cross into his own net.

Dylan Howlett and Jack Torrance increased Rawcliffe’s lead to 4-0 early in the second half, but Strensall pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when Jonny Hopwood turned a long throw into the net.

Torrance bagged his second on 74 minutes and completed his hat-trick on 76 minutes with a turn and shot from 18 yards.

Adam Swords rounded off the rout with a 25-yard screamer with minute to go.

The trophies were presented by York FA’s Geoff Hartley.
