YORK IBC’s play-off finals yielded two new finalists in the ladies triples’ event.

Marilyn Andrews’ team opened solidly to lead 4-0 after two ends, but could only win three more as as Barbara Dawson’s side took control to win 19-7.

In the ladies fours, Carol Instone’s team had a 7-3 advantage after six ends against Helen Walker’s side before scoring a six to give themselves a crucial cushion.

Walker’s ranks hit a single and a four, but from then only singles were scored and Instone’s side ran out 18-12 winners.

The team led by Kevin Liddell got off to a sound start in the men’s pairs, leading 16-1 after only seven ends before Graham Brooke’s team came back with seven shots over three ends.

But then Liddell’s team extended their advantage to 25-8 before Brooke’s team, after scoring a single, conceded with four ends to play.

Phil Emmerson’s team had an 8-4 advantage in the men’s triples but could only win one more end as Malcolm Thompson’s team got back into the game in style to finish 16-9 winners.

Mike Parker’s team won all but three of the opening 11 ends and led the men’s fours final 13-6 before Nigel Macdonald’s team got back with a three, then a two. But three winning ends to Parker’s men re-opened the gap for a 21-13 success.

Paul Humphreys’ team got off to a flier in the mixed triples, where they had the game virtually won by the eighth end when leading 18-1.

Sue Tomlinson’s side won four of the next five to make the score 19-10 but it only stalled an eventual 22-10 loss.


Premier show

York IBC are to host the EIBA’s new Premier 3s competition, which is being played between the country’s top bowlers and is to be televised live on Wednesday, August 21.

Meanwhile, York have entered two teams in the Yorkshire Summer League.

The first game is on Monday, May 20 with the finals at York IBC in early September.
