STUDENTS from the University of York have unveiled a new children’s trail at the Treasurer’s House.

The trail has been completed in time for resident’s free weekend at the National Trust property.

Lisa Holden, visitor services manager, said “We often hear from York locals that they never get round to coming to York’s attractions because they are on their doorstep. This year we want families to come and see us to try out the great new children’s trail .

The students had a strict schedule to follow in delivering their prototype and even had to complete a dragon’s den, type experience arranged by the university to pitch their idea. Once the prototype had been developed they also sought feedback from the the staff and volunteers at Treasurer’s House before coming up with the final design.

They completed this whilst juggling part time jobs and their studies at the same time.

Richard Brooks, Student at University of York said “It was interesting to see behind the scenes at the house and it gave us an insight in to what working in heritage might involve.”

Sarah Leith, Volunteering project officer, University of York comments “This project was coordinated by York Students in Communities, from the Careers department at the University of York. During Autumn 2012, a small team of students from the University of York worked with the staff and volunteers at National Trust, Treasurer’s House to develop an exciting children's trail. It has been great to see their work develop and it will be really exciting to see it being used by the public when they visit.”
