HOW different it all was ten years ago. The Manics had gone through collapse and catharsis following Richey Edward's disappearance. Their next offering was a radical departure.
James Dean Bradfield felt under pressure to come up with music to weave into the Blitzkrieg staccato lyrical attack Richey had used on The Holy Bible. Everything Must Go had a brighter melodic feel, with the soaring, arena-filling anthems Design For Life, Australia and Everything Must Go.
This box set has the original disc - with live tracks added - a second CD of alternative versions and studio outtakes, and a DVD containing documentaries, live performances and videos.
The DVD is well worth a watch, and the presentation box has some interesting notes from John Harris. But do owners of the original need this re-release? After all, you can't improve on perfection.
