Riverside kept up their good start in men's division one of the York Badminton League with a hard-fought 5-4 win at newly-promoted Tadcaster 86.

Phil Zealand and Ross Overton showed well for Tadcaster with three wins for 165-136, but John Fowler and Pete Moss swung the match in the final rubber with 14 and 18 over Andrew Cooper and Bill Morley.

Clifton B' were on top home form to score a 6-3 win over Selby/Drax A' in men's two. Phil Singh and Paul Waterhouse confirmed their opening pair status with three wins for 145-111, while Phil Brunyard and Steve Parr responded with two easy wins.

University Students B' opened their men's three account with a 9-0 win at Terrys. James Baxter and Tom Ilett were in great form with all three triumphing in straight sets for a 127-73 success.

Knavesmire had to work hard for a 5-4 home win over University Staff. Andy Lambert and Brian Bell made the Knavesmire difference with three wins for 144-110 and fittingly took the match-winning rubber with a 16 and 18 success over Lim Eng Kiat and Xiao Cheng Ge.

York RI A' continued their march towards the mixed one title with a 9-0 home win over Selby/Drax A', who were a pairing short. Phil Bradley and Kate Jackson topped the Institute averages with two wins for 84-47.

University Students A' opened their mixed two season with a convincing 8-1 home win over Sandburn Hall. Ros Walker and Robin Khan were in great form against tough Sandburn opposition to record three straight wins for a return of 126-62.

St John's recorded their first win in mixed four with a superb 9-0 away win over luckless Fulfordgate B'. James Smith and Anne Geilen took the student honours with a return of 127-87 taken in straight sets.

Market Weighton got their season on track in mixed five with a 9-0 home win over Terrys. Weighton's reliable pairing of Sue Smith and Kev Marshall did the business with three straight wins for 126-75.

University Students C' scored back-to-back 8-1 home wins over Tadcaster 86 B' and Terrys.

Tom Branson and Nicola Farr starred against Tadcaster with three wins for 126-78, while, against Terrys, Branson - partnered by Tamsin Garrod - headed the campus returns with all three for 126-81.
