Bootham A' maintained their excellent start to the NEDL York and District Table Tennis League division one campaign after hammering Poppleton A 10-0.

Although three of the sets went to five games, Jon Wooldridge, Paul Eastwood and Jo Suchecki were the toast of the Conservative Club-based leaders.

Holgate A' struck form as they dispatched Groves A', for whom Martin Hood returned after injury, 10-0. This moved them to second with John Farmery, Graham Hatfield and Tony Reed the unbeaten trio.

University A' showed they are a side to respect when they overcame Sessions B' in division two. Debutant Jan Natolski was unbeaten.

The surprising score-line was Holgate B''s 10-0 thrashing of Poppleton B' after both teams had gone in to the match level on points.

Holgate's Ed Wardman, John Flintoft and Bob Young all starred, although Mike Cooper lost two of his sets in close five-game affairs. Flintoft is now second to Phil Hall in the averages.

In division three, Holgate C' moved up with an 8-2 success over two-man Groves B', while there was a keen battle between Poppleton C' and Bootham B'. Although the latter's Gareth Bryning was unbeaten, the game finished all square. Bryning's team-mate Bob Plant had a frustrating night as he lost all his three singles 11-9 in the fifth.

Sessions C' ace Richard Kendal maintained his unbeaten record in division four and heads the averages, although he was pushed all the way by Steve Wands of Holgate D' before winning 11-9 in the fifth.

The Holgate side also drew with Shepherds C', for whom Alan Milner returned to form, winning his three singles and assisting in a doubles success. Milner and David Atkinson, who won his first games of the season, were also unbeaten as they upset Shepherds B' 7-3.

Steve Potter was in outstanding form for Groves D' in their 6-4 defeat at Norwich Union A', winning his three and claiming the scalp of the hitherto unbeaten Alan Wren.

In division five, Norwich Union B' went down 6-4 to a two-man Nestle Rowntree B' side, for whom Richard Falkingham was unbeaten, and he also aided in a doubles success. The insurance outfit also tasted a 7-3 defeat to Poppleton D', whose Chris Armstrong won all three.

Nestle Rowntree B' fielded a full team for the first time this season, but still perished 7-3 to leaders Railway H', for whom Andy Grayson maintained his undefeated record.

Tom Coleman of University B' is also still unbeaten this season, and he was well supported by Tim Mehta as they swept aside Shepherds D' 9-1.
