TRAFFIC chaos hit York after a city centre bridge was shut after a load attached to a lorry scattered across the road.
A woman pedestrian was injured after sheets of metal fell off the back of the wagon as it passed over Skeldergate, at about 11.25am yesterday.
The lorry's cargo was scattered across the busy inner ring road and it was partially blocked for more than an hour. Police put diversions in place while drivers queued around the usually busy bridge.
Both lanes of the road were eventually reopened at about 12.40pm.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said paramedics had taken one woman to York Hospital with leg injuries that were not thought to be serious.
