I WOULD like to express my gratitude to those who helped me on April 9 when I collapsed at the junction of Thanet Road and Foxwood Lane.

A man by the name of either Jason or Jordan or similar put me in the recovery position and stayed with me until as the ambulance arrived to transport me to York Hospital.

I remember a woman was on the phone to the emergency service describing my age, locality etc, but I never caught sight of her; also, the ambulance crew who transported me to hospital, and the doctors and nurses who checked me over.

Ironically, my collapse was put down to a little too much energy being spent after the announcement on April 8, about someone who had spent her public life attempting to ruin the health service and who was on record as saying: “There is no such thing as society.”

As a former Labour member of the old York City Council, I spent decades fighting her attempts.

Well, all I can say is that Mrs Thatcher was obviously incorrect in her statement about society.

It still exists and good upstanding and caring people of the community proved that by coming to my assistance and her attempts to demolish the NHS failed because I was given the best of treatment by all concerned.
