IN RESPONSE to the article in The Press of April 13, at this time of the nation pulling its belts in and businesses trying to make a living, the last thing we need is a negative article.

As for our learned professor, has he been to Farndale to check his theory?

The reason the daffodils had not flowered was simple: it has been too cold.

You just have to look in your own gardens to see the evidence.

As for the fields being waterlogged, the water from our fields runs into the River Dove.

I have written this article on behalf of my loyal customers who were upset by the story. The good news is that lots of daffodils are out now.

• AS I walked through Farndale, I set off in trepidation as you had reported lack of flowers, and at that time it was correct, they, like us, did not like the cold.

At the information point I was told that on Saturday there were 18 daffodils seen to be in flower. By Wednesday there were swathes of them, impossible to count.

It is a wonderful sight and there were so many more in bud set to join them. A really uplifting site after all the bad weather and bad news.
