As I drove home the other evening, I couldn’t help but notice the highway maintenance van working on Skeldergate Bridge.

The workmen were busy replacing the no-right-turn sign which had been removed due to a traffic accident a few days earlier.

I am pleased the decision has been made to replace the sign, as I can only assume it means the relevant authorities have decided to start enforcing the prohibition it signals.

Why waste the resources replacing the sign otherwise?

It’s a shame, however, that as I drove past the road user behind me decided that the restriction didn’t apply to him, as he not only turned right, but passed the pedestrian island at the end of Skeldergate on the right hand side of the road in doing so.

This is only one example of many I have experienced since I moved to the area, and the most saddening part is that a lot of the offenders immediately turn into Cromwell Road after performing the illegal manoeuvre.

Cromwell Road is a controlled zone with no through access, meaning a large number of offenders are residents who should know better.
