FOODIES are being invited to take part in a swapping event in York.

Apples For Eggs will be hosting its York spring fair next Saturday at the Ambience Café in Gillygate.

At the event, which runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, people will be able to swap produce.

Organiser Sue Jewitt said it was an opportunity for growers, home-bakers and enthusiastic cooks to exchange their produce for free.

No money changes hands, the currency is home produce, says Sue.

She added: “Bakers, picklers, jammers, foragers, bee-keepers, chicken keepers and allotmenteers are all welcome to come along with their delicacies to exchange with other local home producers.”

After swapping, people go home laden with a range of goods.

Sue said: “We are lucky in York to have more than one thousand allotment plots in the city.

“Our food swaps are an extension of this sociable and collaborative approach to the growing and making of the food we eat.”

Saturday’s event will be the first of three this year; the summer swap will take place on July 13 and the autumn one during the Food and Drink Festival on September 21.
