A FASHION show with a difference is being held on Monday by a York disabled children’s charity.

All the bridal, bridesmaid and prom dresses being modelled on the catwalk are bankrupt stock and will be sold for a fraction of their true value to raise funds for the Georgina Grace Trust.

The event is being organised on Monday evening at the Marriott Hotel in Tadcaster Road by the Trust, named after a young Poppleton girl, now aged eight, who had a stroke at birth and is registered blind and has epilepsy.

Grace’s mother, Ruth Thompson, who founded and runs the charity, said she hoped the show, along with an annual ball being held next Saturday, would raise a total of £3,000.

She said the money would pay for a paediatric treadmill needed by physiotherapists at York Hospital’s children’s centre to help children with mobility.

“All the dresses, which range in size from 8 to 26, are bankrupt stock and have been donated,” she said. “The bridal dresses are worth between £500 and £1,450, and can all be bought for £200.

“There are designer dresses as well, and the bridesmaid and prom dresses can be bought for £50.

“There are also tiaras, veils, and shoes on sale.

“We will have a changing area where people can try items on, and a seamstress who can make adjustments.”

The doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm. Admission costs £3 on the door.

Meanwhile, the charity’s annual ball, featuring a meal, dancing to music by a Shirley Bassey tribute act and music by soprano Rebecca Newman, which will be attended by Bad Girls actress Nicole Faraday, takes place at the Royal York Hotel next Saturday.

Tickets cost £55 per person by phoning 01904 780880 or by going to www.ggt.org.uk
