YOUTH councillors in North Yorkshire have elected a six-strong group to represent them regionally and nationally.

The winners of the election to decide members of the UK Youth Parliament voted in Hannah Berzins, from Selby, Livy Newton, from Whitby, and Emily Nicholas, from Richmond, with Ripon representatives Jamie Blyton and Adam Dickson and William Urukalo, from Knaresborough, serving as their deputies.

The results were announced at County Hall in Northallerton. Campaigns planned for 2013/14 focus around access to transport for young people and issues over sex, drugs and gender issues.

James Parkes, North Yorkshire County Council’s youth engagement officer, said: “They have a very exciting year ahead of them.”
