YORK Schoolboys Under-14s kept up their title challenge with a 3-0 home victory over Leeds.

Leeds controlled the early possession at the University of York, but the hosts went ahead midway through the first half when Adam Wilson reacted quickly to a loose ball and lobbed the ’keeper.

Sam Drake and Aron Clarke were outstanding in midfield, with Clarke unlucky to see his long range strike hit the underside of the crossbar and rebound to safety after the break.

However, York did not have to wait long to double their advantage as, a few minutes later, the excellent Louis Cade forced a deep corner kick into the roof of the net.

York continued to create chances and Leeds to their credit were a constant threat at the other end, but centrehalf Jacob Smith and left-back Jarrad Benson withstood all the visitors had to offer.

Smith then started and finished a move from one end of the pitch to the other to complete the scoring with two minutes remaining.

Adam Wilson was named man of the match.

York U15s also kept their title hopes alive with a 3-2 success at home to Leeds.

The visitors took the lead after ten minutes when a Leeds striker latched on to a weak back pass to beat ’keeper Connor Stead.

York levelled from the restart when Joey McCormick played a ball through to fellow midfielder Matty Mulhearn and his cross was fired in by Rob Cowley.

York forged ahead on the stroke of half-time, with McCormick and Mulhearn linking on the left again to set up man of the match Ben Hirst.

After the break, full-back Luke Wilkinson and Kris Fawcett went close and Hirst fired a shot against the bar.

Fawcett then had an effort cleared off the line, before Leeds scored an unlikely leveller, heading in from a corner.

Stead was called into action, making a brilliant right-handed save, before McCormick’s mazy run was halted by a trip in the box and Fawcett fired home the spot kick.
