BATTLING York Schoolboys Under-13s bowed out of the West Yorkshire Cup after a 4-1 extra time semi-final defeat at Barnsley.
Barnsley had the better of the first period, with York ’keeper Adam Precious having to produce a sharp save to keep it goalless at half-time.
Zac Lawrence went closest for the visitors, seeing a 25-yard strike well saved by the home ’keeper.
Barnsley took the lead with a unstoppable first-time strike from 20 yards out.
York started to apply pressure and Will Mouncher hit a drive just past a post and man of the match Lucas Hindle forced the home ’keeper into a save.
A deserved equaliser came when a Max Tweddle corner was headed on by Joe Kemp for Dan Davison to score from inside the six-yard box.
Marcus Haigh and Joe Kilvington both went close before the end of normal time.
The first period of extra time was goalless, but Barnsley scored a vital second goal before adding two further late goals.
