A DISASTROUS double bogey six and a dropped shot at the closing hole dented Simon Dyson’s European Tour charge at the Open de Espana in Valencia.
The 35-year-old York-born golf ace endured a mixed opening day back on the greens following a month out of action but, despite three bogeys in his opening 12 holes, four birdies set him up nicely for a top 25 position at the Parador de El Saler.
Then came the six at the 14th hole and a bogey five at the 18th, which meant Dyson finished with a two-over-par round of 74, and left him tied for 80th place.
The early lead saw a three-way tie between Felipe Agular, Gary Stal and Morten Orun Madsen, who were all at four under par.
