A YORK residents’ group will launch its first gardening contest next week.

The Foxwood Garden Competition, which will run in conjunction with National Gardening Week, will have more than £200 in prizes, with the Foxwood Residents Association sponsoring the £100 award for the overall winner.

There will also be categories for the best front garden, tub, hanging basket and window box, with the competition being sponsored by Barnitts and Dean’s Garden Centre.

Foxwood in Bloom member Sue Galloway said: “We hope residents will enter into the spirit of this competition and nominate themselves or their neighbour’s garden, and we’ve made it easy for everybody to get involved.”

The competition will be judged by broadcaster and horticultural expert Nigel Harrison during July and is open to all residents living in the Tedder Road, Foxwood Lane, Foxwood Hill and Pheasant Drive area.
