Fiercely competitive bidding in an auction for a flying lesson in a flight simulator at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, raised a soaraway £3,500 for the Press Guardian Angels appeal.
Dozens of business people at the awards vied for the chance to take a simulated low-level jet flight over the Lake District.
Successful bidder was Paul Nolan, non executive director of Charterhouse recruitment company, of York and Leeds.
"It has always been my lifetime ambition," he said.
Another £1,000 was raised for the appeal through cash donations on the night.
