THE WHIRLWIND Jimmy White will not be whipping up a storm at next month's UK Snooker Championship in York.

His hopes of reaching the final stages of a ranking event for the first time this season were "Finn-ished".

White lost nine of the last ten frames as he was put out of the UK Championship qualifiers by Finland's Robin Hull. The 44-year-old, who currently stands at 51 in the provisional rankings, took a 3-0 lead over Hull, the world number 50.

But his form dropped sharply afterwards and Hull ran out a comfortable 9-4 winner. It's the latest blow for White, who said he was "very disappointed" at letting his lead slip.

"My form has been good in patches, particularly in the Premier League. I have to keep plugging away," he said.

Hull, who comes from Espoo, near Helsinki, will play Nigel Bond at the Barbican Centre.

Meanwhile, qualifier Liu Song could set up a mouth-watering all-Chinese clash with compatriot Ding Junhui if he can get past Ryan Day in round one.

Song, who has played his way into the tournament after winning through all the qualifying rounds - the last a 9-8 win over Drew Henry - is due to face Day in the opening match of the competition on Monday, December 4.
