THE odds of York-born celebrity Scott Henshall winning an ITV gameshow have gone out to 100/1.

The fashion designer to the stars - who spent his formative years in the Ryedale village of Sheriff Hutton - wrestled with actress Phina Oruche to win a box full of cheese and biscuits on reality TV show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!

The pair were supposed to take part in a race to unlock the box, but Scott simply threw himself on the padlock and refused to budge. Phina, his opponent, tried to drag him away, and the two grappled with each other for several minutes.

Eventually, Scott angrily gave up, screaming "you're an animal!" and "I was being bitten and scratched to death!" as he left.

The outburst saw popular support for Scott melt away, and viewers voted for him to undergo a stomach-churning skydive last night.

But even that stunt was unable to revive Scott's fortunes as he failed in the parachute challenge against former newsreader Jan Leeming.

The pair had to make a tandem jump from a light aircraft and catch streamers in mid-air.

Scott caught two of the streamers, but Jan triumphed, catching a total of four.

It meant her team of the show's women stars were given food, while the men went hungry.

Scott, 31, has been finding life tough in the jungle. He has already had to traverse a 200ft tightrope running from two sides of a valley in a trial called Tree Top Terror.

Opinion in York was divided as to whether Scott had done the right thing by trying to block the padlock but, nationally, support was reported to be plummeting faster than the skydiving star.

Yesterday, bookmakers Paddy Power had Scott at 100/1 to win the show - now joint outsider. Phina was also 100/1. Scott had started the show at 12/1.

Notorious moaner Jan, was quoted at 40/1 to win.

Scott's parents, Mavis and Nigel, lived in Sheriff Hutton during his early childhood.

Village historians maintain their most famous son is Sgt Major William Sharrow, who died at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

TOM STIRLING asked people what they made of Scott Henshall's jungle antics

Henry Lord, 16, of Ripon, said: "I thought he was right to do what he did. There weren't any rules, and he used his brain. He did well to sit on the box."

Carl Knowles, 17, of Harrogate, said: "He's a bit bitchy, isn't he? I wouldn't say he's done himself any favours."

Catherine Elliot, 29, of Clifton, York, said: "The name Scott Henshall rings a bell, but I have never watched the programme. I can't stand it. It's a load of nonsense."

Gulson Majothi, 50, of York, said: "I had heard that Scott Henshall was involved in the latest series, but I've never watched it. I'm sure he is doing fine."
