INJURY played a key part in Acomb Ladies' 3-1 Yorkshire League division one defeat against Tadcaster Magnets.
The Tangerines grabbed an early lead with a short corner strike from Kerry Woods, but an injury shortly afterwards to Annie Pye reduced Acomb to ten players and Tad levelled with a controversial penalty flick.
Acomb battled well but were struggling to make headway against the Magnets defence with a player less. Tadcaster went ahead before half-time and rounded off a 3-1 victory with a second-half goal.
Midfielders Wendy Watson and Rachel Holmes starred for Acomb.
Acomb Men's I came from a goal down to beat City of Hull XI 3-1 in Yorkshire League division two.
Some fine saves from goalkeeper Steve Church kept Acomb in the game early on and after Simon Theaker sustained a nasty ankle injury the Tangerines went 1-0 down.
Theaker soldiered on and Acomb's persistence was rewarded with an Ian Roberton equaliser just before half-time.
Roberton then converted Matt Gray's pinpoint cross to put Acomb ahead and the hard-working Nick Linfoot scored Acomb's third.
Pete Hilton and full-back Mark Gibbons were solid in defence while Paul Wright organised the team superbly.
In division nine, Acomb Mens II got off to a flier at Leeds Adel Carnegie VII with Andy Smith's solo strike after ten minutes, but their challenge ran out of steam and they fell 3-1 behind before Martin Grainge clawed a goal back near the end.
