THE Bar Lane Studios gallery, pop-up shop and basement performance space in Bar Lane, York, is to close today.
“Yet another public exhibition space is to shut down in the city,” said manager Ben Clowes.
“After more than three years of working with local, regional and international artists, Bar Lane Studios, like so many others, is no longer funded, and so we’re closing our doors.”
The 32 studio spaces for artists at Bar Lane will, however, continue to operate.
“This will still provide artists with this much-needed resource and a programme to invest in this space will roll over the next 18 months. Closing our gallery is a very sad day for York, having already lost Space 109 community arts centre in Walmgate, and with York City Art Gallery closed for two years for refurbishment,” said Mr Clowes.
The gallery will close this evening with a party with work for sale.
