'The Voice' coach Jessie J has slammed rival talent shows.

The 24-year-old singer - who is a coach on the BBC One show alongside Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am and Danny O'Donoghue - has hit out at similar programmes by insisting the show "celebrates singing" instead of using its air time to "ridicule people" and doesn't edit footage "to make it look like the contestant was horrific".

When asked her opinion on some of the negative feedback 'The Voice' received last year, she told BANG Showbiz: "If things were that bad we wouldn't be here celebrating the second series. And I definitely wouldn't be sitting in the chair if it was that bad and it wasn't credible and it wasn't a music show that celebrates singing, not ridicules people.

"Everyone wants to compare but the fact is 'The Voice' is like nothing else. It isn't. There's nothing else like it, there's no bullying, there's no pointing and laughing, there's no editing to make it look like the person was horrific.

Tom also insisted the coaches on 'The Voice' never get told what to say, which is something that has previously been claimed happens to the judges on talent show 'The X Factor'.

Speaking at the launch of the second series of 'The Voice', he explained: "We're not doing things for effect. We're doing this to say, 'We've got to be like this.' And nobody is telling us either. We don't get people saying you've got to be more competitive. We are what we are and that's why we are the four coaches because we're different from each other but we all have the same interest to do the best we can for these singers."

'The Voice' returns to BBC One at 7pm on March 30.
