MAY I congratulate York Light Opera for the magnificent production of Oliver! which we saw last week.
The show was equivalent to the West End and TV portrayals. They say “never work with children and animals”, but all the players were amazing.
How do they fit work, families, travel and rehearsals in? It is total dedication at its best. The workhouse boys, as with all scenes, were faultless.
Oliver (Reuben Lally aged eight) and the Artful Dodger (Josh Benson) vied for top spot. They were in the red team.
I am sure the blue team were equally brilliant.
The singing from all the York Light Opera company enthralled, especially the pathos and questioning “Who will buy?” The haunting voices were sympathetic and would have touched many a heart.
Let us offer our appreciation for entertaining us over the 60 glorious years. Long may they continue to do so.
