THE Vicky Pryce/Chris Huhne sentence reminded me that middle class and professional people seldom get sent to prison.

One good effect when they do is that they are able to talk and write about conditions in prisons when they come out.

A very high percentage of prisoners are said to be illiterate, so they won’t be writing a book about it.

I once went for a job interview at a London prison. I was pleased I did not get the job.
