VULNERABLE York residents could be offered extra help with paying their energy bills through a potential link-up between Yorkshire councils.

City of York Council’s cabinet will be asked to approve details of how the Green Deal – a Government energy efficiency scheme – will benefit homeowners through additional grant funding over the next three years when it meets on April 2.

The initiative allows energy improvements to be carried out at no upfront cost to residents through loans attached to their property, which are repaid through subsequent electricity and heating savings.

If approved, the York authority will team up with councils within the Leeds City Region and agree in principle to put £41,000 towards the cost of implementing the scheme.
