York Schoolboys Under-15s kept their Yorkshire League title chase alive with a 3-1 win at East Riding, writes James Jeavons.

Joe Rawcliffe and Ben Hirst went close for York in the first half before the visitors took a deserved lead on the stroke of half-time through striker Hirst.

Winger Rob Cooney and Hirst went close at the start of the second period before the York pressure finally proved too much for the East Riding back line and Kris Fawcett slotted in a second goal from 15 yards.

York rounded off the scoring when Rob Cowley fired home a composed right-foot finish. The visitors scored a late consolation from the penalty spot.

York U12s will put their 100 per cent record on the line in the Junior Star League against fellow unbeaten side Hull following an 8-2 win at Derby.

Joseph Allerton put the visitors in front with a low shot and then doubled the lead with a near post volley.

Man-of-the-match Kain Rogerson slotted in a rebound after a free-kick and then Dan Moll rounded the ’keeper to make it 4-0 at half-time.

Reece Botterill’s cross was met by Alfie Atkinson for a fifth, Rogerson struck an unstoppable shot for York’s sixth and Moll then netted from close range.

Derby rallied with two goals in five minutes, but Moll completed his hat-trick.

York U13s came back from 1-0 down for an impressive 5-1 league win at East Riding.

East Riding went 1-0 up after a mix-up in the York defence but the visitors levelled when a Max Tweddle corner led to man-of-the-match Will Mouncher powering home a free header.

Marcus Haigh teed up the second after half-time when he beat the ’keeper and Tweddle got the last touch to see the ball over the line.

York went 3-1 up when, from a Mouncher pass, Owen Marshall netted after rounding the ’keeper. A Tweddle shot was then fumbled by the home ’keeper, and Donald Chimalilo scored.

York’s final goal came when a Joe Kemp header was blocked and Josh Rogerson scored through a crowded goalmouth, rounding off a deserved win.

The U13s’ next game is at Barnsley in the semi-final of the West Yorkshire Cup.

York U14s suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Wakefield. The hosts fell behind when they failed to deal with an inswinging corner.

Wakefield then scored a controversial second goal as a ball was played in behind the York defence but there looked to be a possibility of offside.

Alex Wilson then went close to reducing the deficit for York on two occasions.

Liam Powell took the man-of-the-match award for an outstanding second-half display.
