YORK High School and Knaresborough’s King James School were the big winners at York’s Emerging 9s rugby league events held at York Acorn ARLC.
The nine-a-side competition used to be linked to the York International 9s festival, with teams vying for the Marston Moor Cup.
It is now, though, part of a national schools competition, where the winners progress to the Yorkshire finals.
York High won all their four round-robin games at Year 10 level, finishing top of the table above second-placed Millthorpe, and King James did likewise in Year 8.
The two tourneys included teams from Lady Lumley’s School, Pick-ering, which is normally a rugby union-playing school. Their Year 8 side won two games to finish level on points in joint second alongside Huntington and York High.
Selby schools contested their own tourneys too. Barlby High edged Carlton on points-difference at the top of the Year 10 table, both having won three games and lost one, while Selby High triumphed in Year 8, winning all three of their games.
