SNOW is set to cause treacherous driving conditions for motorists in York and North and East Yorkshire through tonight and tomorrow, weathermen have warned.

Several inches of snow are possible, particularly over higher ground, with strong and bitterly cold easterly winds set to cause drifting. East Riding of Yorkshire Council said its salt bins had been restocked and its salt supplies were “healthy.”

“The council is putting plans in place to undertake winter maintenance operations during Friday and into the weekend,” said John Skidmore, the authority’s head of streetscene services.
